Startup Idea

Problem:
There isn’t a quick way to determine if the collectibles market, overall, is up or down in a given day or week. I’d like to check how the collectibles market is doing every morning when I get up.

Idea:
Create an index or a series of indices that track all sales, bidding activity, social media mentions, search volume, active listings and more. Take all of this real-time data and roll it into an index that looks like the NASDAQ chart.

How I Would Move this Idea Forward Today:
✔ Hop on Reddit and Facebook Groups where collectors hang out. Start with a narrow target of baseball card collectors.


✔ Ask people if they have a need for real-time market analysis.


✔ If yes, mock up what an index might look like and describe what data you might be tracking.


✔ Determine if the users would pay for indices and a real time market snapshot delivered to their inbox every morning. Maybe the product is a newsletter and not just an index. Find out.

✔ I’d grow the business and make it defensible with exclusive data partnerships with auction houses and collectible sales platforms.

One Piece of Advice

MVP.

Everyone talks about MVPs, and few understand them.
An MVP is supposed to be your first PAID product.
It’s almost like they need to call it an MVPP (Minimum Viable PAID Product).

This is a super minimal product you create to determine if your audience is willing to PAY you for a solution.


👉 Once they buy your product, you solicit their feedback on if you’re fully solving their problem. Then you make changes from there.


If the audience does NOT pay you for the product, then you learned:
✔ This product didn't solve their problem... not even partially.
or
✔ This audience might not be willing to pay for a solution to this problem at all.
