Today:

🥶 How to write a cold email. I’ll show an example below.

🔦 Check out this Validator AI user’s startup! Super cool.

As an entrepreneur, we’re always looking to level up our connections. I’m constantly reaching out to people to learn from them, see if I can help them and (of course) tell them what I’m working on.

However, there’s an art to writing a cold email — I’ll show you what to do, and what NOT to do. I used the below format to reach the owner of an NBA team last month, for example. And now we’ve talked 4 times. 👍️ I use this format to talk to investors, entrepreneurs, CEOs and more.

📩 The art of writing a good cold email.

These are the key points:

  • People are BUSY. Make it short! If you don’t, the recipient will assume you have no clue how the world works. 😭

  • Try to align yourself with them on some level — if you align your status with theirs, they will assume you’re a peer and not begging for help.

  • The goal of a cold email is NOT to make a sale.

  • The goal of a cold email is NOT to tell your life story.

  • The goal of a cold email is to get one of two things:
    1. A meeting
    2. A reply

  • The cold email should be a MAXIMUM of 4 or 5 sentences.

It’s very rare to send a cold email and make a sale. Don’t even try.
Try to get a meeting. Something short, like 5 minutes is what you should ask.

This is a good format to use: ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

  • One sentence to show the person you have authority in your industry.

  • One sentence to talk about the problem you’ve discovered.

  • One sentence to describe what you’re working on.

  • One sentence to tell them why you want to talk to them.

  • One sentence to suggest a time, a 5-minute meeting etc.

🛑 This is NOT the place for your life story, or a deep dive on your background. The recipient is smart, they can decipher if you’re qualified from one well written sentence. They can also determine if what you’re working on is worthy of their time.

👉️ Show them you have traction and aren’t just a dreamer.

And, above all: Play it cool. The more you act like you’ve been here before, the more they’ll respect you and assume you are on the same playing field as them. Be appreciative of their time, but don’t appear desperate for a meeting. Talk like you would talk with a friend. Tell them you’re working on something cool, and you’d like their take on it. That verbiage works well.

✍️ If I were to write a cold email about Validator AI, to a potential partner or investor, I’d write it like this:

Hey Max!

Aron here in Irvine, CA. We’re working on something awesome, and I’d like your take on it. We have built an AI tool that helps people create startups. We have 170,000 registered users, and huge plans. Curious if we could have a quick 5-minute call… I’d love your input!

Thanks!
Aron

If they are interested in what I’m working on, they can dive into my background and motivations. I showed traction which gives me credibility and aligns our status a bit. They understand why I reached out to them, no need to lean into that. I kept it short, casual, and cool.

⌛️ Short and to the point shows that you respect their time. ⌛️

I’d like for you to watch this video below. This shows the correct, and not correct way to launch a startup. I wish someone would have told me this years ago.

📚️ Startup Story!

This is NOT a paid ad.

Validator AI member David is working on something pretty neat. He is building a platform that enables anyone to create a ChatGPT app. His long-term goal is to help people build and monetize their ChatGPT apps. David has a PhD in machine learning and has raised a pre-seed round for his startup: zapt.ai

Here is how David has used Validator AI in his journey:

Putting Zapt through Validator AI provided great insights and actionable advice. Validator AI underscored several vital considerations for the project including: Quality Control, Ethical Concerns, Intellectual Property Rights, Monetization Strategies, User Adoption, Community and Competition.

Validator AI has significantly enhanced our strategic planning and will shape the next steps in the development of Zapt.

David. Founder of Zapt.ai

Thanks David, and best of luck! Keep your eye on Zapt everyone.
