📃 The 10 Reasons Why We Quit Our Ideas.
And… Why We Should Keep Going!
Many of us are frustrated and give up quickly.
It’s normal.
Here are the 10 most common reasons why you want to quit (I am hearing these directly from our community), and my thoughts.
1️⃣ Fear of Failure and Embarrassment
Wow. Big one right out of the gate.
We’re all afraid to put ourselves out there and tell people what we’re working on.
What if the idea goes nowhere and we look stupid?
⭐ DO THIS:
Let’s take some baby steps.
Post on LinkedIn and Twitter, and mention the problem that you want to take on.
Ask your network if they have any insights into this market and if they have thoughts on the problem.
See, that wasn’t so bad, right?
2️⃣ Budget is Too Tight.
Certainly, chasing a startup idea will cost a lot of money, right?
No.
⭐ DO THIS:
You can get started today for nothing.
Step one: above… post on social media.
Step two: figure out who has a big problem that needs solved.
Step three: determine where you can find these people.
Step four: start the conversation with them about their problem.
What solutions have they already tried?
Why didn’t those solutions work?
You’re on your way now…
3️⃣ Lack of Time
This is an easy one.
Does the above process seem time consuming?
It’s not.
You can reach your target audience from your home — find them on social media and start the conversation.
4️⃣ Validation Problems
I can help here 😂
I think you’re struggling to find out if your idea is valid.
The above process helps you start all over, and get back to basics.
⭐ DO THIS:
What is the problem in the market?
Who has this problem?
Why are the current solutions not solving the problem?
What can you create to help these people?
Will they PAY YOU for a solution?
Start there.
5️⃣ Lack of Support from Others
I get it.
Entrepreneurship is lonely and frustrating.
⭐ DO THIS:
✔ EMAIL ME if you need help.
Reply to this email. Tell me what you are trying to accomplish.
✔ Join our Discord.
Tell everyone what you’re working on and why you are frustrated.
You don’t have to do this alone…
6️⃣ Feelings of Inadequacy (I lack skills, experience etc.)
This one hurts. Self doubt.
It seems like everyone that starts a business is a genius.
Great news…
They are NOT!
As soon as you realize successful people are no smarter than you… everything changes.
⭐ DO THIS:
You probably have an idea in an industry you know well.
You are the expert here. We aren’t.
So…
Start meeting people in your industry.
Start meeting with your future customers.
You have a lot to offer - your expertise.
✔ Start sharing your expertise on social media!
✔ Write LinkedIn posts that share your unique insight into the market and the problem customers are having.
Once you start sharing your expertise — people will see you as an authority and good things can happen.
7️⃣ Lack of Immediate Results
We assume overnight successes are real.
You don’t see the hard work people put in, alone.
You only see their success online.
You see big VC funding rounds, and you wonder why it isn’t happening to you.
⭐ This is a long journey. Take baby steps. Just do one small thing every day to move your idea forward.
8️⃣ Too Many Other Ideas (Distractions)
If you have several ideas…
⭐ DO THIS:
Pick the one idea where you are in close proximity to the customer.
Meaning… pick the idea where you can easily reach the customers.
Because… you probably know this market well if you know the customers well.
Don’t worry about HOW BIG this idea can be.
Any idea can turn into a huge opportunity if you simply start serving a small target audience you can easily reach.
9️⃣ Analysis Paralysis
You’re overthinking things.
You’re downloading research reports.
You’re thinking of key partners and co-founders and who you’d hire if this goes somewhere.
Skip all of that.
Don’t download market research reports.
Don’t make a business plan.
⭐ DO THIS:
Find one customer with a problem and solve it. Then repeat.
🔟 You are Overwhelmed
It feels like there is a lot to do:
Find out who the competition is… and where they are weak.
Write your unique value proposition.
Marketing.
Advertising.
Branding.
🚫 Stop.
⭐DO THIS:
I’m sounding like a broken record here…
Find a small group of people in an industry with a problem.
Dive in deep with them and find out why this problem exists.
Why hasn’t it been solved?
Then, discuss potential solutions with them.
💡 ANYTHING ELSE you do at this early stage is a waste of time and resources.
