📅 Day 3: Talking to Customers

In case you missed it, we’re simulating the startup journey with Pete, a guy who manages a sporting goods store.

Recap of day one: Pete’s Startup Journey Day 1
Recap of day two: Pete’s Startup Journey Day 2

🙋‍♂️ Today Pete is going to validate a few things with his audience, and we are going to vote on features we think the product should have.

Pete is talking with other sneaker enthusiasts about problems and solutions. NO, all sneaker collectors don’t look the same. 😄

❎ The votes are in!

Which problem in the sneaker industry should Pete try to solve?

😲 It’s a TIE. Are you kidding me.

✔ We are going to go with: Delayed Payment Verification System

Some readers mentioned that sneaker buyers might not want to wait for the long process of getting verified in a community. If the verification comes from community activity, that might take too long. The crowd is usually right!

Today we are going to interview sneaker enthusiasts, both in person and online. We are going to specifically ask about the sneaker drop process, and what frustrates them.

We are going to have an AI simulate 100 conversations to pull out the key frustrations so Pete can determine his path forward.

We are going to talk to sneaker collectors in store and on Reddit in these groups: /r/sneakers and /r/sneakermarket

Pete will ask these general questions:

  • Do you participate in sneaker drops?

  • Are you successful in purchasing sneakers in those drops?

  • Why or why not?

  • What do you think the problem is with sneaker drops?

  • Do you feel it is a fair system, or does it need changed?

🤖 We had AI simulate these conversations and here are the key findings:

Do you participate in sneaker drops?

  • 85% of respondents said "Yes"

  • 15% said "No"

Are you successful in purchasing sneakers in those drops?

  • 70% rarely succeed

  • 20% are sometimes successful

  • 10% almost never succeed

Why or why not?

  • 80% blame bots

  • 60% mention resellers

  • 30% attribute it to luck

  • 15% point to technical issues like website crashes

What do you think the problem is with sneaker drops?

  • 85% say bots dominate the process

  • 70% mention resellers flipping sneakers

  • 40% say limited stock is an issue

  • 25% feel brand practices encourage this unfairness

Do you feel it is a fair system, or does it need to change?

  • 90% believe the system needs to change

  • 10% feel it is fair for some but unfair for most

👍 These are great insights, and it seems bots are a common theme. So, let’s move forward with our bot idea and take it to the next step.

We told the sneaker enthusiasts that we will present a solution soon.

🙋‍♂️ VOTE!

We have early signals that the bot solution might be needed. Vote on what this product should look like (and then we’ll get the insight of our customers again). 👇👇
