Youâve got an idea.
Youâve had it for a while.
You think about it, daydream about it⌠(I know the feeling!)
but youâre not building, validating, launchingâŚ
Youâre stuck.
Itâs a horrible feeling. I know.
(Thatâs why Validator AI was started).
Weâve talked to 200,000+ idea-stage founders and hereâs what we see over and over:
Top 3 reasons your startup idea stalls
1. You arenât sure who the customer is
You think your solution might be for parents, or basketball players, or car enthusiasts, but you havenât actually talked with anyone yet.
2. You donât know if anyone wants it
You have a gut feeling.
We are all in love with our ideas!
But you havenât looked for any market signals and you havenât validated anything.
â 3. You donât know what to do first.
This is a big one.
Do I build a landing page?
Start a social media channel?
Do I start blogging?
Do I tell family and friends?
Do I make a sample?
This over analysis just stops you dead in your tracks.
Itâs overwhelming, I know.
đĄ How to break through (easy steps to validate your idea and move forward)
1. Figure out who your customer might be
Make a list.
Thatâs an easy first step.
Write down 5 types of people that might want your product or service.
Write down who this is for and why they need it - come up with 5 different ideal customer personas.
2. Go find them⌠online or offline
Go where they hang out:
Reddit groups.
Facebook groups.
On Instagram.
Discord channels
In real life.
Locate where they are and go to them.
This part isnât as scary as you think, yet itâs where most people quit.
đ 3. Talk to them like a detective, not a salesperson
Ask about their struggles, what theyâve tried, what they wish existed.
You arenât pitching anything right now. Youâre listening and learning.
This is a fact-finding mission up to this point.
4. Float your idea casually
âSo, youâve tried X and it didnât work. What if we made Y. Thoughts?â
âWhat about [your solution]? Has anyone made that yet?â
5. Have at least 5 real conversations
Youâll start to see patterns.
Youâll hear the same complaints with current products.
Youâll hear the same objections to your idea over and over.
But the good news is - every objection is a data point that helps you learn what to do next.
If these people arenât pumped up about your idea, find out why - and determine exactly what they need (theyâll tell you!).
6. Adjust based on what you learn
This is important.
Donât make adjustments based on what you love⌠adjust based on feedback.
The entrepreneurial process is like putting together a puzzle, with incomplete information.
â You have to go out and get that information from the market and then rearrange and keep building.
7. Build a simple landing page or signup form
If you have interest, start gathering contact info.
If youâre doing this in person, ask if you can contact them later when your product is ready.
If youâre doing your detective work online, Iâd build a super simple (FREE) landing page that simply says what you are working on, with a form that collects emails.
I know of a few places that let you build and publish for free. Try one of these:
â Carrd.co
â Tally.so
â Jotform.com
â Google Forms
These are NOT sponsored listings.
đ Now youâre unstuck.
Youâre learning, validating, and moving forward.
